Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) is a term used to describe policies and programming that aim to promote the representation and participation of ALL individuals that includes age, race, ethnicity, abilities and disabilities, genders, religions, cultures, and sexual orientations. DEI matters because it helps work towards equal opportunities for all, while striving to bring people, and perspectives together with the common goal of strengthening organizational impact and effectiveness. Equitable employers who focus on DEI will undoubtedly outpace those who do not make this a focus in hiring, retention, and representation while utilizing varying perspectives of all team members. As a result, a deeper trust, and commitment will become the norm, all while working towards building better systems and yielding more positive outcomes.
